MSU over Western Carolina, 6-1


The Diamond Dawgs notched their first victory of the year on Saturday night, 6-1 over WCU.

Trevor Fitts had a solid game: scattering 7 hits in 6 innings (career high) with 11 strikeouts (career high) and one earned run. Jacob Lindgren and Preston Brown bridged the gap to Johnathan Holder who earned his first save of the year with 1.1 IP (it was 3-1 when he entered the game in the 8th).

MSU scored their runs in the 4th inning when Cody Brown tripled for his first career hit scoring the first run, then Jake Vickerson had a 2-run single to make it 3-0. Wes Rea had a 2-run single in the 8th to give him 4 RBI on the year and C.T. Bradford drove in a run with a bases loaded walk.

Game 3 will be at 1:30 Sunday. Ben Bracewell is expected to get the start.
