Trying to guess a John Cohen lineup is basically impossible. He goes on gut more than most coaches and unless you’re inside his brain there is just no real way of knowing exactly which direction he will go. Throw traditional batting orders out the window – Coach Cohen has his own unique style, but it’s just as if not more effective.
However, I will take a stab.
- Jake Vickerson, LF
- Alex Detz, DH
- Wes Rea, 1B
- Brett Pirtle, 2B
- Reid Humphreys, 3B
- C.T. Bradford, CF
- Zach Randolph, C
- Demarcus Henderson, RF
- Matthew Britton, SS
There are four players that you can pretty much guarantee will be in the lineup for 95% of the games barring injury: Wes Rea, Alex Detz, Brett Pirtle, C.T. Bradford. Detz may be at 3B or DH, likely depending on how Humphreys progresses both offensively or defensively.
Outside of those four, RF is somewhat nailed down with Henderson, LF (Jacob Robson) and SS (Seth Heck) are up for grabs and C (Cody Walker, Daniel Garner, Gavin Collins) is really up for grabs, I just took an educated guess that it would be Randolph.
Matching up position by position compared to last year, the two glaring spots are RF and SS. Hunter Renfroe and Adam Frazier were the core of the lineup but there’s a 100% chance we will not see the same production this year. I think it’s possible we could get more production out of LF, we really need solid offensive numbers from the DH spot.
Humphreys or Daniel Garner are the most likely to fill the role of DH. One of these guys will need to step up and produce in a top spot in the order. Joey Swinarski, Cody Brown and Derrick Armstrong could also fill in here. There are several options, but this will be a key spot.
