When D’Runnya Wilson signed a football scholarship in February of 2013 it was common knowledge that he would be playing basketball for MSU as well. He was Mr. Alabama Basketball coming out of Birmingham his senior year – the same honor as State’s current leading scorer, Craig Sword, received the year prior. But football season has ended and basketball is about to start conference play with no sign of Wilson playing for Coach Ray.
With a week in the books since the conclusion of the Liberty Bowl, if Wilson has yet to practice then it doesn’t appear he will hit the hard-court. Ray has told reporters that he has left the decision up to Coach Mullen and Wilson….which is the right thing to do considering he is on a football scholarship. So is Dan not allowing him to play, does Bear not want to play anymore?
I’m not going to speculate, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Bear Wilson came to the conclusion, after a true freshman season with 251 receiving yards and 3 TD, that he has a big time future as a Wide Receiver in football. Or he could be tired. Who knows for sure, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be playing basketball for MSU in 2014.
