Season Rewind - Arkansas Game

This was a much needed win in so many ways. The Whitley strip, the Williams’ TD run – at the end of the game there was a huge sigh of relief among the Bulldog faithful as we had finally got back on track with a win and could put all our marbles in the Egg Bowl basket.

LaDarius Perkins was having a solid game but was injured near the end of the 1st half when he dove into the endzone on a touchdown reception. But Josh Robinson filled in really well with 101 yards on 17 carries.

The game went into OT, but State had plenty of chances to put it away. Five trips into the red zone only yielded 10 points. Derrick Milton’s fumble inside the 5 was a killer before halftime.

Among the many things this game could be remembered for (first win in Arkansas ever, first win when trailing after 3 quarters under Mullen) it should be stated that it was Tyler Russell’s last college game, and he gave a solid, gutsy effort. Before getting knocked out of the game near the end of regulation he had thrown for 283 yards.

As many bad special teams plays as MSU had this year, they were successful at stopping fake punts. There was one against Troy and in this game when Bret Bielema tried to get cute and we snuffed it out.

MSU 24, UPig 17.
