Senior Tribute: Baker Swedenburg

Punting in an interesting position. You only need a punter when you fail. But we give scholarships to these guys because without a good punter you can be a world of hurt from a field position standpoint.

Baker Swedenburg actually did not have a scholarship his true freshman season – he grey shirted in 2008 under Sly Croom, redshirted in 2009 and after a year behind Heath Hutchins in 2010, he was the full time punter for three seasons.

For his career, Baker punted 153 times for a total of 6,373 yards (41.7 average). He was a solid punter, and one of the best in the SEC. In 2012, he led the way for Mississippi State being 1st in the nation in opponent punt returns, allowing .46 yards per return – only 13 returns all season.

There’s not too much more you can say about a punter….but one of the more interesting stories off the field this year was the fact that Baker is engaged to the long snapper, Winston Chapman’s sister.
