Mississippi State will wear gold helmets for the Egg bowl. Matt Wyatt tweeted a picture on Tuesday which was confirmed by the athletic department.

Friend of M&WN Rocky Vaughan came up with some designs over the summer using gold helmets. Hopefully we’ll go with something similar as far as jersey/helmet combination.

There are always mixed reactions to these uniform changes. Some want to stick with tradition, some like mixing it up. Whatever side of the fence you fall on, you might as well get used to it. The players, and potential MSU players (recruits) love it. I don’t get why, but they do, and the name of the game is getting players to want to come to Mississippi State. Sure, Alabama and LSU and Auburn don’t change jerseys – but that just means the fact that we do makes us stand out a little more. We have to face it – when we’re up against those schools we’re going to lose 9 times out of 10, but maybe the uniform concepts will cut it down to 7 or 8 out of 10. At the end of the day, a week after the game you aren’t going to remember what we wore, you’ll just remember the score and whether State won or lost…maybe who played great. Might as well have fun with it – the players are.
