This Saturday our beloved Mississippi State Bulldogs have what amounts to a “must-win” game as they roll into Little Rock to take on the Arky Hogs.
If State hopes to salvage something respectable out of this season, Mississippi State’s first ever win in the state of Arkansas must come this weekend.
Vegas has our Dawgs as 2-point favorites in this contest. Considering how Arkansas has played this year and the talent on the Bulldogs’ roster, that almost seems insulting. Some times, though, you just have to trust that Vegas knows something you don’t. Even the purely mathematical Sagarin rankings would put State as only 5-point favorites. What we would have thought a month ago to be an easy win and what now has become a must-win is not going to be any cakewalk.
And perhaps what makes it even worse is that we don’t even know who our quarterback is! Will Dak be able to play? Is Russell going to be healthy and confident enough to do the job? Or will true freshman Damian Williams get his first ever career SEC start?
These questions most likely won’t be answered until gameday. A lot of questions will remain to be answered on the field.
Arkansas’ strength this season has been running the ball, but Mississippi State’s front 7 have been pretty darned good, in case you haven’t noticed. Our offense will be questionable, but the uPig defense has been terrible. They’ve given up a lot through the air and even more on the ground. Get LaDarius Perkins some longer spikes for his cleats (or just run J-Rob and Shump more), and I’d say the odds definitely favor breaking our win-less streak in the state of Arkansas.
