Things You Must Do While Attending Mississippi State: Eat Breakfast at the Perry Cafeteria

One of the top things you must do while attending MSU is eating breakfast at the Perry Cafeteria.  Where else can you dine on a mouth watering breakfast while taking in the sights and scenery of over 1000 flags from various countries.  I don’t typically recommend lunch or dinner, basically because it’s way too crowded and you don’t get to interact with the friendly and not so friendly staff as much.

We usually chose to dine at Perry the morning after a Cheers Penny Pitcher Night, hangovers make the food taste that much better.  Several of us had a standing breakfast appointment every Friday morning, we always had a few that missed depending on where they slept the night before or how much they had the night before.

When you arrive on campus you must quickly assess the situation (even though your senses may not be at peak performance), you must check your surroundings for a large group of campus employees we referred to lovingly as the hens.  If you manage to get stuck behind this 10 person wide group of women on the sidewalk you may never get around them and you may never get your breakfast if they beat you to the line.

Once you manage to beat the hens to the line you must then figure out the best way to get the “fat, nice lady” to cook your food for you.  If you happen to get her you can expect a monster 5 or 6 egg omelet perfectly folded and loaded with cheese and other goodness.  She also makes an awesome bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, stacked perfectly and piled high.

If you are not so lucky and get the “skinny, rude lady”, you will be lucky if she even looks at you to take your order.  She will simply say, “May I help you?” without even looking in your direction and leaving you to wonder if she is actually talking to you.  If you don’t respond within 5 seconds she will continue to ask until someone does answer.  On occasion she will allow a hen to jump in line and make her food before yours with a smile on her face.  When it is time to make your food the smile goes away and the attitude returns.  You can expect a measly 2-3 egg omlet not folded into a square and barely loaded with any toppings.  It doesn’t matter how nice you try to be to her or how rude you are to her for that matter, the food turns out the same.  We even filed a complaint against her in the Perry suggestion box, but her attitude and food just got worse as if she knew we were the ones that complained.

Do not let your fear of poor service keep you from trying Perry for breakfast, simply return as many times as it takes to get the fat lady omlet.  You will not regret it.
