Prisoner of the Moment

When Kobe Bryant hits a 3-pointer to win the game, POTM declares him the most clutch player of this generation.  The next night he misses a late free throw that would have tied it and POTM says he choked.

When Dee Bost has a bad game, POTM sends him twitter messages to tell him he “sucks”.  Oh, but when he hit three late treys vs. Alabama POTM sent him a tweet to say he is #clutch.

At 12-1 and ranked #14, POTM boasts about how State will contend for the Final Four this year. After an upsetting loss to Ole Miss on Wednesday, POTM rushes to the message boards to state his opinion as fact: MSU will be 8-8 in the SEC this year.

Mark it down right now. All the complainers who can’t see 10 feet in front of them or 10 feet behind them, and are dismayed with the 15-4 basketball team’s performance. Those who declare Stansbury can’t coach, and we won’t win a SEC road game all year. What will they be saying a month from now? Two months? And as a matter of curiosity, what were their predictions for this team prior to the season?  Was it to be 15-4 at this point? I don’t think so POTM.

Don’t judge a game by one play. Don’t judge a season by one game. Don’t judge a coach by two weeks worth of games. Keep in mind the entire body of work.

Take your job for example. Whether you are a teacher, salesman, homemaker, engineer, or whatever, has there ever been a time when you struggled? You may do this job everyday, but there have been times when you felt helpless. Times when you struggled to succeed even though you felt like you were good at it. During those trying times, did you forget how to be a teacher, salesman, homemaker, engineer?  No, you didn’t. And eventually you made your way out of the rough patch to be successful once again.

Be weary of the POTM. Don’t hitch your wagon to their runaway horse. Stay the course, keep the faith.
